Who Needs Renters Insurance?

Walk through your apartment and start adding up the cost of everything inside of it. Your living room furniture, your television, your wardrobe… If your apartment were to experience damage such as a fire or burglary, could you afford to replace all these items?

Your landlord’s insurance policy won’t cover your stuff. That means you need coverage for your belongings and injuries suffered by guests in your unit. An NJM Renters Insurance policy insures your personal property and personal liability.

Have Questions? We Have Answers!

Insurance is sometimes complicated, but no worries. Here are answers to some questions we commonly receive:

What does renters insurance cover?
Renters insurance can help you replace stolen or damaged personal property – whether it’s in your home or with you when you travel. It also provides liability coverage for damage you may cause. Learn More
Do you need renters insurance?
Renters insurance is a good idea if you rent a house, apartment, or condo for many reasons. Learn More
Does renters insurance cover theft?
Renters insurance covers theft of your personal property anywhere in the world. Like all insurance coverages, though, there are some limits and exceptions. Learn More
Does renters insurance cover water damage?
A renters insurance policy won't cover water that originates from outside the apartment. It might, however, cover water originating from inside the building, as long as the damage was sudden and accidental. Learn More
How does renters insurance apply to storage units?
A renters insurance policy will protect your personal property regardless of whether it's in your home or in a storage unit. Please note that property kept in a storage unit is only covered up to 10% of your chosen limit for personal property. Learn More
Does a college student need renters insurance?
College students who live in a dorm do not need renters insurance. However, if a student lives off campus, renters insurance may be a good idea. Learn More
Does renters insurance cover moving?
Renters insurance covers your property as long as it's in your care, custody, and control. Once you hand it over to a moving company, you might not be covered. Learn More
Does renters insurance cover bed bugs?
Renters insurance policies usually do not cover the extermination and cleanup of bed bugs — or other insects or vermin that might take up residence in your home. Learn More
