NJM Insurance Group (“NJM”) recognizes that you trust us to respect the privacy and confidentiality of your information. NJM is committed to keeping your information secure and confidential. Our Online Privacy Policy explains how we collect, process, use, and disclose information gathered from our websites and mobile applications. This policy applies to all users who visit NJM.com and any other website, mobile application, or service where this notice is linked (our “Services”). This policy applies to the NJM Insurance Group of companies, including New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company, New Jersey Re-Insurance Company, New Jersey Casualty Insurance Company, and New Jersey Indemnity Insurance Company.

This policy does not apply to information collected through any third-party websites or mobile services, including through any application or content (including advertising) that may link to or be accessible from or on our Services. This policy also does not apply to any information you submit via email, text or other electronic message, or offline communication, e.g. phone or mail.

If you do not agree with our policies and practices your choice is to not use our Services. By accessing or using our Services, you agree to this policy. This policy may change at any time. If we make changes, we will post the new policy on this page. Your continued use of our Services is deemed to be acceptance of those changes.

NJM uses and discloses nonpublic personal information we receive from our customers in accordance with the NJM Insurance Group Notice of Information Practices, whether that information comes from our Services or from any other means. Nonpublic personal information includes, but is not limited to, your name, address, Social Security number, policy number, policy and claim information, and payment account information. This privacy policy is not intended to amend, abridge, replace, contradict, change, or otherwise affect the policies outlined in the NJM Insurance Group Notice of Information Practices.

What Information Do We Collect?

The types of information we gather and how we use it will depend on how you engage with our Services. For example, if you start an insurance quote on NJM.com, but decide to finish it later, we may save your information so you can continue your application where you left off. We may also use collected information to customize your experience or analyze your use of our Services. If you use our telematics offerings, which include NJM SafeDrive and NJM SafeDrive Go, we may use your driving data to determine your insurance policy pricing, for claims handling, or for internal research purposes.

Depending on your relationship with us and how you interact with our Services, we may also collect from you or third parties:

  • Personal identifiers and personal data, including your name, address, phone number, IP address, email address, Social Security number, driver’s license number, and other similar information;

  • Internet or other similar activity, including information about your interaction with our Services;

  • Claims information, including information about your previous and current claims;

  • Risk information, including information about your driving or accident history, which may include data from consumer reporting agencies and loss history data; and

  • Telematics and geolocation data.

How Do We Collect Information?

Whether we collect information, the types of information we collect, and how we process it depends on how you access and use our Services. Some information is automatically collected through the use of cookies and similar tracking technologies. We collect information about you and other individuals proposed for coverage through your use of our Services, in the following ways:

  • Directly from you. We collect information when you use our Services, including when you utilize our online Quote & Buy portal, apply for or purchase NJM products or services, obtain a quote, file or check the status of a claim, utilize our Manage Your NJM Policy service, pay your bill, use interactive features available through our Services, contact us directly, or otherwise voluntarily provide your information.

  • From service providers. Third parties, including adjusters, appraisers, agents, brokers, investigators, attorneys, consultants, and other service providers, as well as insurance support organizations and consumer reporting agencies, may collect information about you through our Services and share it with us. We may combine the information we receive from you with information from third parties.

  • Through tracking technologies, cookies, and other digital tools. In conjunction with our Services, we may utilize tracking technologies which automatically collect information when you interact with our Services, including session replay software and similar tools. We use tracking technologies to help improve your experience with the Services.

    We use cookies, tags, and similar technologies to enhance your access to our Services and to store session information in order to communicate with our web servers. We and our third-party advertising providers may use these tools to assist our traffic measuring software, provide personalized content, identify you and contact you across multiple devices, perform analytics and detect usage patterns on our Services, diagnose or fix technology problems, detect or prevent fraud or other harmful activities, and otherwise enhance our Services.

For example, we may use the personal information you provide to us, including information received from consumer reporting agencies, for things such as:

  • Underwriting and rating your policies and accounts;

  • Confirming your identity and servicing products you have applied for or purchased;

  • Processing claims;

  • Offering you other NJM products or services;

  • Recording telematics and trip information if you participate in our voluntary telematics program;

  • Providing location-based services, such as roadside assistance;

  • Enhancing your customer experience and improving our systems and products;

  • Contacting you at a telephone number or email address you provided to us, including cell phones or other wireless devices, via recorded message, live call, through the use of automated dialing equipment, by text (SMS) message, or any other means of communication your device is capable of receiving, as allowed by law and for reasonable business purposes;

  • Developing and offering new products and services;

  • Protecting against fraud;

  • Complying with legal requirements;

  • Performing day-to-day insurance operations;

  • Communicating within the companies of NJM so you do not need to provide us with the same information multiple times; and/or

  • Performing other activities as required or permitted by law.

How Do We Share and Disclose Your Information?

NJM does not sell your personal information. We may disclose information to other companies providing marketing services on our behalf, but we will not disclose information with other companies for their own marketing purposes. We may disclose information to third parties so that they may perform a service related to enhancing our customer service, providing you with an insurance policy, or processing your claim, including:

  • Third parties who perform a business, professional or insurance function for NJM;

  • Our reinsurers and affiliated companies, including other companies within NJM;

  • Public entities, including insurance regulators, law enforcement agencies, and fraud prevention agencies;

  • Insurance support organizations and consumer reporting agencies;

  • Businesses that help us with data processing;

  • Business that provide marketing or other services on our behalf;

  • Businesses that conduct research for us and the insurance industry, including actuarial or underwriting studies;

  • Other insurance companies, including our affiliates, for claims handling, underwriting, and fraud investigation purposes;

  • Certificate holders or policyholders for the purpose of providing information regarding the status of an insurance transaction;

  • Your mortgage company, lienholder, finance company, or lessor; and/or

  • As otherwise allowed by law.

How Do We Protect Your Information?

NJM maintains physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to keep your information secure. We limit access to personnel who “need to know” in providing services to you, your policy or claim, and to support our insurance operations. We do not sell your information to mass marketing or telemarketing companies. Our internal code of business ethics and information protection policy require employees to keep information obtained in the course of our business confidential. Any information we share with third parties, including organizations which perform a service for us or help us market our products, is subject to confidentiality protections and may be used only for the purposes intended.

We retain your information in accordance with our legal obligations or as otherwise permitted by law. The period of retention is subject to our review and alteration.

NJM protects customers’ information with physical, technical, and procedural controls and maintains compliance with federal and state regulations. We employ in-house, as well as third party, testing of our Internet accessible applications and IT systems to ensure your information remains secure. Our systems are monitored for unauthorized intrusion attempts and attacks.
