Adding a Smart Home System
The safety of your home, family and possessions is important. With today's technology we can monitor our homes with just a touch of a button from our smart device.
Smoke Alarms, Sprinklers, Burglar Alarms, and Smart Home Systems
Many insurance companies offer discounts on your homeowners policy if you have a smoke alarm, burglar alarm or sprinklers installed in your home. You may even qualify for a larger discount if these systems are connected to Wi-Fi in your home and can be monitored from your smart device.
Installing Energy Management Systems
Many people want to make their home energy efficient and environmentally friendly. One way to go green is to install solar panels on your house.
Solar panels are excellent way to make your home eco-friendly and energy efficient. They can even save you money on your energy bills and increase the value of your home. If you are interested in adding solar panels to your home check out this Homeowner's Guide to Going Solar.
How are they covered? If you own your solar panels they are covered under Coverage B also known as Other Structure Coverage on your homeowners policy. An additional endorsement can be added for more coverage if your solar panels exceed the value of Coverage B on your policy.
Leasing solar panels? If you do not own your solar panels they may not be covered under your homeowners policy. Leased solar panels are not covered under an NJM homeowners policy. Speak with your solar panel company to see what coverage options are available to you when leasing your solar panels.
Home Additions/Alterations
Renovating your home can be an exciting time! If you’ve made recent renovations to your home you’ll want to speak with your insurance company. Recent alterations to your home may require you to change the limits on your homeowners policy, so your home is adequately covered.
